US envoy in Sudan reverts to Islam, forced to step down

Istanbul: The US charge d'affaires in Khartoum, Joseph D Stafford, resigned from his post after he converted to Islam, Sudanese local media sources said.

According to World Bulletin, Stafford told the foreign ministry that his resignation was made for "personal reasons" but Sudanese sources claimed that the envoy was forced to resign after he turned to Islam.

Sources said that Stafford has recorded visits to the headquarters of Ansar al-Sunnah in Sudan and established a close relationship with a number of Sudanese clerics through these visits.

The U.S. State Department has not made any statement to confirm or deny the news on Joseph Stafford.

After his resign, Stafford published an article in the Sudan Tribune and said, "My wife and I have been very fortunate to meet so many wonderful people throughout Sudan who share a strong desire and willingness to improve their communities. We will always remember you and your compelling country, and I know you will continue your hard work for a better life, just as you say daily 'Fi Kulu Harakah Baraka' (Arabic for 'in every move there is a blessing')."

The U.S. has not appointed an ambassador to its embassy in Khartoum since 1998 and has kept its representation there at charge d'affaires despite Sudan's demand that it be upgraded.

Former anti-Islamist performs Hajj

Arnoud van Doorn (pic), who announced he converted to Islam after resigning from Freedom Party (PVV) led by extreme rightist Geert Wilders, was in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj.

Arnoud van Doorn, former member of the Party for Freedom in Netherlands and a former antagonist of Islam, was one of the thousands who came to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, Riyadhconnect reported.

Van Doorn, who until the end of 2011, was a strong supporter of Geert Wilders, the Dutch leader who created the anti-Islamic film ‘Fitna’. He resigned from Freedom Party (PVV) led by extreme rightist Wilders after converting to Islam.

Earlier this year, van Doorn declared in public that he had embraced Islam. In his quest to produce another anti-Islam film, he took to learning more about the religion that he strongly advocated against. He read and learned in depth the Holy Quran and Islamic teachings and later became spiritually inspired by Islam.

Van Doorn had come to Saudi Arabia earlier this year to perform Umrah. According to the report, he expressed his feelings while performing Hajj; said that his eyes were filled with tears of joy ever since he arrived in Makkah. He added that he was living the best moments of his life, reported Akhbaar24.

He said that he found in Islam what he was lacking and searching for in his previous life. He went for Hajj to ask Allah for forgiveness and to pray that Allah erases his past sins. It is his wish to live in Al-Madinah close to the Prophet’s mosque; however his family and work hinder him from fulfilling his wish.

Van Doorn is planning to produce a film that defends Islam and shows the truth, Riyadhconnect reported.

Allah (subahaanahu wa ta'ala) has created seven heavens, and he favored the 7th one over the rest. Allah has created the stars and the planets, and he favored planet earth over the others. Allah (subahaanahu wa ta'ala) has revealed over 6000 verses, and he favored Ayathul Kursi over the others. And Allah (subahaanahu wa ta'ala) has sent hundreds of Messengers and Prophets and he favored Rasoolullahi (ﷺ). And Allah (subahaanahu wa ta'ala) has created the days and out of all these days he favored the best day, which is the day of Arafah. For this reason, a Jewish man went to Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He told him, 'Ya Ameerul M'umineen (O leader of all the believers) there's a verse in your book, which you recite. If this verse were to be revealed to us, the Jews, we would take that day as a holiday, as a festival.' Umar Ibn Al Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he realized there are over 6000 verses in the Quran, 'Which one are you talking about?' He told them, that verse where Allah says... 'Today, I have perfected your religion, completed my favors upon you, and I have approved and I am satisfied for Islam to be your religion.' Umar Ibn Al-Khattab told him, 'I know exactly when and where this verse was revealed. This verse (which completed the Shariah of Islam) was revealed on the day of Arafah, on a Friday.' SubahaanAllah! Look at the value of Arafah.

In another hadith, Rasoolullahi (ﷺ) said...'Allah took the covenant, the covenant from the back of Adam (alayhissalaam) in N'aman.' What's N'aman? In Arafah. Allah took the covenant in Arafah. And I'll explain what's the covenant in the following few words. 'And from his back, from his loins (l-o-i-n-s) he extracted his offspring's.' So YOU were there, amongst the ones that were extracted, I was there, the prophets were there, the musicians were there, and with all respect, all these rappers which you can think about, the non-Muslims...like Lil Wayne...people of this category, they were all there, Fir'aun was there. And Allah addressed all of us and He said, 'Am I not your Lord?' and we all said, 'O yes Allah, we testify that you are our Lord.' Look at this covenant, which we all valued, it was done in Arafah. SubahaanAllah! Look at the value of Arafah. You know now why Allah values that day? The day of Arafah? So if the Jewsih man valued that day, If Allah (subahaanahu wa ta'ala) valued that day, then how should be our reactions and our emotions during that day?

By this phrase the ex-member of Geert Wilders’s right-wing anti-Islam Freedom Party, Arnoud van Doorn, surprisingly declared his conversion to Islam.

Via his account on the famous social networking site,Twitter, Arnoud announced in Dutch his‘Nieuwe start’ (New start) as a Muslim. The news was confirmed in Dutch news as well.

The news is one of the latest breaking in the Netherlands.

Till the end of 2011, Arnoud van Doorn was a member of the fiery, far-right, anti-Islam, anti-immigration Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) Dutch party.

On February 27, 2013, Arnoud posted a tweet in Arabic declaring his Shahadah (Testimony of Faith): Ashhadu an-la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu (I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger).

The phrase is known as the First Pillar of Islam that in order for a person to be a Muslim this conviction is firstly needed.

Given his previous explicit views on Islam, Arnoud’s story was a shock to many who doubted and harshly criticized the announcement, which is still a subject of debate on twitter. In another tweet, he expressed his grief and discomfort with ‘the many hateful comments on social media’.

Arnoud account was deluged with hundreds of followers and positive comments backing and congratulating his choice. To them he posted a late tweet in both English and Arabic expressing his gratitude: ‘Thanks for all the support!’

In face of strong attacks on Twitter, Arnoud declined to comment on the reasons or circumstances behind his conversion, confirming that the choice is his own and that his religion was ‘a matter of privacy’.

We all welcome Arnoud to Islam and ask God to guide him to His right path.

He just stated that more details about his conversion will be released soon.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera.net, Doorn made it quite certain confirming the truth of his conversion, and thus removing  the spreading doubts about it.

‘Anyone who knows me closely can just predict the decision. For more than a year now I have been learning deeply about Islam through books and talks.

‘No doubt, other than those close, many are shocked by the decision, particularly those who know of my anti-Islam stands. And this is why they are questioning it.’

1. Pada malamnya bulan kelihatan seperti separuh jafnah (jafnah; bekas makanan berbentuk bulat seperti pinggan besar atau talam)” (Soheh Muslim, 1170/222).

2. Malamnya tenang, tenteram dan sentosa (Al-Jami’ as-Saghier; 7728, menurut as-Suyuti; hasan. Musnad Ahmad; 22765, hasan).

3. Malamnya bersih dan terang di mana seolah-olah pada malam itu terdapat cahaya bulan yang menerangi, menenggelamkan cahaya-cahaya bintang (Soheh Ibnu Hibban, 3688, menurut Syeikh Syu’aib al-Arnaut; hadis soheh bisyawahidihi. Musnad Imam Ahmad; 22765, hasan).

4. Udaranya tidak terlalu panas, tidak terlalu sejuk (Soheh Ibnu Hibban, 3688, hadis soheh bisyawahidihi. Al-Jami’ as-Saghier; 7727, 7728, menurut as-Suyuti; hasan).

5. Tidak ada lontaran dari bintang pada malam itu hinggalah pagi (Al-Jami’ as-Saghier; 7727, hasan. Musnad Imam Ahmad; 22765, hasan).

6. Malamnya tidak berawan, tiada hujan dan tiada angin (Al-Jami’ as-Saghier; 7727). Menurut penjelasan al-Munawi; maksudnya ialah tidak bersangatan awan, hujan dan anginnya (tiada ribut) (Faidhul Qadier).

7. Pada paginya matahari muncul dengan cahaya yang lemah, sekata, berwarna kemerahan dan tanpa sinaran/pancaran yang menyucuk mata (Al-Jami’ as-Saghier; 7727, 7728, hasan. Musnad Imam Ahmad; 22765, hasan. Soheh Muslim; 762/220).

Namun yang penting pada malam al-qadar (lailatul qadar) ialah beramal pada malam tersebut. Berkata Imam al-Munawi; “Orang yang tidak dapat melihat tanda, tidak mesti dia tidak mendapat malam tersebut. Boleh jadi seorang yang bangun beribadah di malam itu, ia hanya dikurniakan Allah kesempatan beribadah, tanpa dapat melihat sebarang tandanya. Orang itu di sisi Allah lebih baik dan lebih mulia daripada orang yang hanya melihat tanda sahaja (tetapi tidak beribadah di malam tersebut)” (Faidhul Qadier; 7728).

Fox News Anchor Dumbfounded That A Scholar, Who Is Muslim, Had The Audacity To Write A Book About Jesus.

On Friday, Fox News invited renowned religious scholar and prolific author Reza Aslan onto the air, ostensibly to discuss his latest book on Christianity, ‘Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth.’

But instead, host Lauren Green launched into an Islamophobic attack on Aslan’s credentials and expressed incredulity that he, a self-professed Muslim, would be able to write about Christianity in a fair and honest way.

Throughout the nearly 10 minute interview, Green inaccurately sought to portray Aslan as a religiously-motivated agitator with a hidden agenda out to discredit the very religion that he himself once practiced:

GREEN: This is an interesting book. Now I want to clarify, you’re a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?

ASLAN: Well to be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees — including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades — who also just happens to be a Muslim. So it’s not that I’m just some Muslim writing about Jesus, I am an expert with a Ph.D in the history of religions…

GREEN: But it still begs the question why would you be interested in the founder of Christianity?

ASLAN: Because it’s my job as an academic. I am a professor of religion, including the New Testament. That’s what I do for a living, actually.

Undeterred, Green continued by reading aloud from an equally Islamophobic FoxNews.comcolumn by John Dickerson in which he dismissed Aslan’s academic pedigree, referring to him simply as “an educated Muslim” with an “opinion” about Jesus.

Green would pivot back to Aslan’s religion at least seven more times during the interview, simply refusing to accept that a Muslim could also be an impartial scholar of Western religion. 

As Aslan pointed out towards the end of his interview, many scholarly works have been written about Islam by Christian academics. Those authors, he noted, are rarely if ever asked to defend their credentials or explain why they chose to cover a religion apart from their own, certainly not on Fox News, which regularly provides a platform to hate-mongers like Pamela Geller and Frank Gaffney and passes them off as experts on Islam.

THE Islamic holy month of Ramadan begins at the sighting of the new moon in the ninth month of the lunar calendar. During Ramadan (which starts on July 9th this year) observant Muslims around the world abstain from food and drink between sunrise and sunset. Because it follows the lunar calendar, Ramadan shifts by 11 days a year in relation to the Gregorian calendar. In some places, like Saudi Arabia, that makes little difference to the number of hours a day Muslims must fast. But what happens in northern countries where there can be up to 24 hours of darkness or light, depending on the time of year? What about in Antarctica, where periods of continuous daylight and continuous darkness last several months? How do Muslims observe Ramadan in places where the sun does not set?
