This Y Haplogroups world map shows that Malays of the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as the Han Chinese of South China, who all share the dominant Y-DNA Haplogroup ‘O’, are actually blood-brothers.

This Y Haplogroup map, as the results of massive DNA sampling exercise from participating male population of the various countries and regions of the world, is about Y-chromosome (Y-DNA), inherited exclusively from father to son in an unaltered fashion for many generations, which allow geneticists to identify very old lineages and ancient ethnicities.

Another map below depicts Y-DNA of Haplogroup ‘O’ only to show clearly Malay lineage and Homeland in South-East Asia and Malay migration (perhaps originating from the Philippines by sea) that extends deep into Asian Continent, including Taiwan, Japan and Korea, islands of the Pacifics, and Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.

Apparently, the Han Chinese community in South China were immigrants, whose ancestors once lived in the Malay Archipelago. And that these Han Chinese arrivals in the 19th and 20th century into Singapore and Malaysia were actually a return to an ancestral homeland that had been long abandoned.

Now the Malaysian and Singaporean Chinese, or rather Chinese Malay, so to speak, may have the uphill task to learn to live with descendents of their Malay ancestors who had long been forgotten, and to relearn the ancestral Malay language and culture to be accepted as long lost relatives of the Malays.

My great grandmother, a Han Chinese, who came from Guangdong China to Malaysia to then converted to Islam and married to a Javanese from Indonesia to start a big family here, may well be the case of balik kampung (return to the homeland)!

Whilst Another Y-DNA Haplogroup map that comes with lineage frequency table provides the more detailed analysis of 28 selected population groups as follows:

To simplify lineage comparisons, I have replaced the haplogroup codes with country names that show the highest lineage frequency of that particular Y-DNA haplogroup, and ranked them accordingly to produce following interesting results:

Taiwanese – 92.3% Taiwanese (Aborigines), 3.8% Cook Islander, 3.8% Solomon Islander
Vietnamese – 91% Taiwanese (Aborigines), 9.1% Cook Islander
Javanese – 88.6% Taiwanese (Aborigines), 1.9% Cook Islander, 1.9% Solomon Islander, Others 7.6%

It is established that Taiwanese Aborigines carry 100% Haplogroup O(M175), Cook Islanders carry 83.3% Haplogroup C(M130), Solomon Islanders (Malaita Province) carry 66.7% Haplogroup K(M9*), and Western New Guinea Lowlanders carry 77.5% Haplogroup M(M4/M106).

Meanwhile, the fact that Chinese is ranked #4 behind Taiwanese, Vietnamese and Javanese, for instance, indicates there was a back-migration earlier to China from South East Asia. Otherwise how come Chinese carry with them traces of lineages similar to the general characteristics of South East Asians in respect of Solomon Islander and/or Cook Islander, apart from Taiwanese Aborigines.

There thirsty blood vessels absorb and carry it to every part of my body.

Scientists have tested my stomach and found it empty

Ten minutes after I've drunk twenty gallons.

In an eight hour day I can carry a four hundred pound load

A hundred miles across a hot, dry desert

And not stop once for a drink or something to eat.

In fact, I've been known to go eight days without a drink,

But then I look a wreck.

I lose 227 pounds, my ribs show through my skin,

And I look terribly skinny.

But I feel great!

I look thin because the billions of cells lose their water.

They're no longer fat. They're flat.

Normally my blood contains 94 percent water, just like yours.

But when I can't find any water to drink,

The heat of the sun gradually robs a little water out of my blood.

Scientists have found that my blood can lose up to

40 percent of its water, and I'm still healthy.

Doctors say human blood has to stay very close to 94 percent water.

If you lose 5 percent of it, you can't see anymore; 10 percent, you can't

Hear and you go insane; 12 percent, your blood is as thick as molasses

And your heart can't pump the thick stuff. It stops, and you're dead.

But that's not true with me.

Why?

Scientists say my blood is different.

My red cells are elongated. Yours are round.

Maybe that's what makes the difference

This proves I'm designed for the desert,

Or the desert is designed for me.

After I find a water hole,

I'll drink for about ten minutes

And my skinny body starts to change almost immediately.

In that short time my body fills out nicely, I don't look skinny anymore,

And I gain back the 227 pounds I lost.

Even though I lose a lot of water on the desert,

My body conserves it too.

I have a specially designed nose that saves water.

When I exhale, I don't lose much.

My nose traps that warm, moist air from my lungs

And absorbs it in my nasal membranes.

Tiny blood vessels in those membranes take that back into my blood.

How's that for a recycling system? Pretty cool, isn't it.

It works because my nose is cool.

My cool nose changes that warm moisture in the air

From my lungs into water.

But how does my nose get cool?

I breath in hot dry desert air,

And it goes through my wet nasal passages.

This produces a cooling effect, and my nose stays as much as

18 degrees cooler than the rest of my body.

I love to travel the beautiful sand dunes.

It's really quite easy, because my feet are

specially engineered sand shoes.

My hooves are wide, and they get even wider when I step on them.

Each foot has two long, bony toes with tough, leathery skin

between my soles, a little like webbed feet.

They won't let me sink into the soft, drifting sand.

This is good, because often my master wants me to carry him

one hundred miles across the desert in just one day.

(I troop about ten miles per hour.)

Sometimes a big windstorm comes out of nowhere,

bringing flying sand with it.

My nostrils have special muscles

that close the openings, keeping sand out of my nose

but still allowing me enough air to breathe.

My eyelashes arch down over my eyes like screens,

keeping the sand and sun out but still letting me see clearly.

If a grain of sand slips through and gets in my eye,

my inner eyelid automatically

wipes the sand off my eyeball just like a windshield wiper.

Some people think I'm conceited because I always walk around

with my head held high and my nose in the air.

But that's just because of the way I'm made.

My eyebrows are so thick and bushy

I have to hold my head high to peek out from underneath them.

I'm glad I have them though.

They shade my eyes from the bright sun.

Desert people depend on me for many things.

Not only am I their best form of transportation,

but I'm also their grocery store.

Mrs. Camel gives very rich milk

that people make into butter and cheese.

I shed my thick fur coat once a year,
and that can be woven into cloth.

A few young camels are used for beef,

but I don't like to talk about that.

For a long time we camels have been called

the "ships of the desert" because of the way

we sway from side to side when we trot.

Some of our riders get seasick.

I sway from side to side because of the way my legs work.

Both legs on one side move forward at the same time,

elevating that side.

My "left, right left, right" motion makes my rider feel like

he is in a rocking chair going sideways.

When I was six months old,

special knee pads started to grow on my front legs.

They help me when I lower my 1000 pounds to the ground.

If I didn't have them,

my knees would soon become sore and infected,

and I could never lie down.

I'd die of exhaustion.

By the way,

I don't get thick knee pads because I fall on my knees.

I fall on my knees because I already have these tough pads.

I'm a very technical, highly engineered dromedary camel.

How To Pray Five Times A Day With A Busy Work Schedule.

Before I genuinely began to cultivate and nurture my relationship with God, I regarded the five daily prayers that Islam enjoins on believers as laborious. It seemed impractical to expect that I would be able to stop what I was doing during my busy work schedule to take time out and pray.

Working as a news wire journalist, I was often spending upwards of 10 hours a day in the office or at conferences, interviews and meetings, barely able to make time for a lunch break. If I wasn't working, my time was divided between house chores, errands, family and friends, and exercise. I was punctual with everything in my life, except that I was late five times a day.

In my mind, it was not viable to expect that I could wake up before the crack of dawn to pray the early-morning prayer, fajr, otherwise I would be too tired to work effectively later that morning. It also seemed inefficient to interrupt my work meetings to pray duhr, the mid-day prayer, and asr, the afternoon prayer.

Making the sunset prayer maghrib was often a challenge because the window to pray is typically quite short and coincides with the time between finishing work, having dinner and returning home. So, in effect, the only prayer that was feasible for me to pray on time was isha, the evening prayer. For most of my life, thus, I would at best pray all five prayers in the evening, or skip prayers here and there to accommodate my immediate commitments.

Martin Wroe, LONDON - Noah's Ark has been found on the Turkish-Iranian border, 32 kilometres from Mount Ararat, according to the leader of a team of scientists that has been investigating the site for six years.

The Turkish government is so convinced by the findings that, after years of intransigence, it has designated the site one of special archaeological interest and agreed to its excavation next summer.The remote site contains a buried, ship-like object, resting an altitude of 2,300 metres. Wani Saleha Abdullah 35, embraced Islam shortly after arriving in Sabah in February 2009 and works as a part-time maid.

"My very first day of fasting two years ago was very difficult and I was only able to fast for the first week before giving up," said Wani, who lives with her Sabahan husband, a soldier, and his son from a previous marriage, in Ampang.

"Last year, I managed to fast continuously for the first two weeks and for this year, I believe I can fast the entire month of Ramadan."

I embraced Islam after graduating from Cambridge. Prior to that I was a skeptical Catholic; a believer in God but with a mistrust of organized religion.

The Qur’an was pivotal for me. I first tried to approach it in anger, as part of an attempt to prove my Muslim friend wrong. Later I began reading it with a more open mind.

The opening of Al Fatiha, with its address to the whole of mankind, psychologically stopped me in my tracks. It spoke of previous scriptures in a way which I both recognized, but also differed. It clarified many of the doubts I had about Christianity. It made me an adult as I suddenly realized that my destiny and my actions had consequences for which I alone would now be held responsible.

In a world governed by relativism, it outlined objective moral truths and the foundation of morality. As someone who’d always had a keen interest in philosophy, the Qur’an felt like the culmination of all of this philosophical cogitation. It combined Kant, Hume, Sartre and Aristotle. It somehow managed to address and answer the deep philosophical questions posed over centuries of human existence and answer its most fundamental one, ‘why are we here?’

When US soldier Terry Brooks was sent to join military guards at the infamous Guantanamo prison that houses Moslem militants from Taliban and Al-Qaeda, he had not thought he would embrace the religion of those prisoners. After a few chats with a Moroccan inmate, he converted to Islam in 2003.

Brooks was caught by local reporters this week praying in the western Saudi town of Madina before heading for nearby Makkah to perform his first pilgrimage (Umra), which he said had been his dream over the past years.

The Saudi Arabic language daily Okaz said it waited for Brooks to finish his prayers and talked to him about his conversion to Islam. He credited “prisoner number 590” named Ahmed Al Rashdi of Morocco for his “landmark” decision. After converting, he was expelled from the army.

Brooks told the paper he was sent to Guantanamo long before 2003 and later started to mingle with some prisoners there.

Iused to look at veiled women as quiet, oppressed creatures — until I was captured by the Taliban.

In September 2001, just 15 days after the terrorist attacks on the United States, I snuck into Afghanistan, clad in a head-to-toe blue burqa, intending to write a newspaper account of life under the repressive regime. Instead, I was discovered, arrested and detained for 10 days. I spat and swore at my captors; they called me a “bad” woman but let me go after I promised to read the Quran and study Islam. (Frankly, I’m not sure who was happier when I was freed — they or I.)

Back home in London, I kept my word about studying Islam — and was amazed by what I discovered. I’d been expecting Quran chapters on how to beat your wife and oppress your daughters; instead, I found passages promoting the liberation of women. Two-and-a-half years after my capture, I converted to Islam, provoking a mixture of astonishment, disappointment and encouragement among friends and relatives.

Now, it is with disgust and dismay that I watch here in Britain as former foreign secretary Jack Straw describes the Muslim nikab — a face veil that reveals only the eyes — as an unwelcome barrier to integration, with Prime Minister Tony Blair, writer Salman Rushdie and even Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi leaping to his defense.

there for about 5 minutes. When we came out,

there was a traffic warden writing out a parking ticket.

We went up to him and I said, 'Come on, man,

how about giving a senior citizen a break?'

He ignored us and continued writing the ticket.

I called him a dumb ass. He glared at me and started

writing another ticket for having worn-out tyres.

So Mary called him a shit head. He finished the

second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first.

Then he started writing a third ticket.

This went on for about 20 minutes.

The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Just then our bus arrived, and we got on it

and went home. We try to have a little fun each day

At least everyone is in agreement that the verses 80:1-10 refer to an incident in Mecca when Abdullah bin Umm Maktum, a blind man, came to a gathering where the Prophet was talking to some people among whom were some leaders of Quraysh. When Abdullah bin Umm Maktum came to that gathering, someone frowned and turned away from him.

Question: Who frowned and turned away from the blind man?

The Qur’an does not give the name. The Sunni version of the event say that it was the Prophet of Islam who frowned and most Shi’I sources, following the teachings of the Imams of Ahlu ‘l-Bayt (who obviously knew the Prophet better than others) say that it was one the leaders of the Quraysh who frowned and turned away from the blind man.

Obviously the correct version is that which does not contradict the Qur’an and no one can challenge this method of determining the significance of any event or incident mentioned in the Qur’an including identifying the person or persons involved in a particular event or incident.

Home of the prestigious Koranic Sankore University and other madrasas, Timbuktu was an intellectual and spiritual capital and a centre for the propagation of Islam throughout Africa in the 15th and 16th centuries. Its three great mosques, Djingareyber, Sankore and Sidi Yahia, recall Timbuktu's golden age. Although continuously restored, these monuments are today under threat from desertification.

Long Description

The three great mosques of Timbuktu, restored by the Qadi Al Aqib in the 16th century, bear witness to the golden age of the intellectual and spiritual capital at the end of the Askia dynasty. They played an essential part in the spread of Islam in Africa at an early period.

Timbuktu is thought to have been founded towards the end of the 5th century of the Hegira by a group of Imakcharen Tuaregs who, having wandered 250 km south of their base, established a temporary camp guarded by an old woman, Buktu. Gradually, Tim-Buktu (the place of Buktu) became a small sedentary village at the crossroads of several trade routes. Quickly converted to Islam (the two great mosques of Djingareyber and Sankore appeared during the Mandingue period), the market city of Timbuktu reached its apex under the reign of the Askia (1493-1591). It then became an important centre of Koranic culture with the University of Sankore and numerous schools attended, it is said, by some 25,000 students. Scholars, engineers and architects from various regions in Africa rubbed shoulders with wise men and marabouts in this intellectual and religious centre. Early on, Timbuktu attracted travellers from far-away countries.

She is just one of a growing number of modern British career women to do so. Here, writer EVE AHMED, who was raised as a Muslim before rejecting the faith, explores the reasons why.

Much of my childhood was spent trying to escape Islam.

Born in London to an English mother and a Pakistani Muslim father, I was brought up to follow my father’s faith without question.

But, privately, I hated it. The minute I left home for university at the age of 18, I abandoned it altogether.

As far as I was concerned, being a Muslim meant hearing the word ‘No’ over and over again.

Broadcaster and journalist Lauren Booth, 43 - Cherie Blair’s half-sister - said she now wears a hijab head covering whenever she leaves her home, prays five times a day and visits her local mosque ‘when I can’.

She decided to become a Muslim six weeks ago after visiting the shrine of Fatima al-Masumeh in the city of Qom.

‘It was a Tuesday evening and I sat down and felt this shot of spiritual morphine, just absolute bliss and joy,’ she told The Mail on Sunday.

When she returned to Britain, she decided to convert immediately.

‘Now I don’t eat pork and I read the Koran every day. I’m on page 60. I also haven’t had a drink in 45 days, the longest period in 25 years,' she said.

'The strange thing is that since I decided to convert I haven’t wanted to touch alcohol, and I was someone who craved a glass of wine or two at the end of a day.’

khalifahklothing | November 22, 2007, Abdur Rahim Green - Born in Dar-es-salaam in Tanzania to British parents, Green's father (born in England), Gavin Green, was a colonial administrator in the then extant British Empire. At an early age he moved back to the UK with his parents. His mother is of original Polish origin.

At the age of 10 he attended a Roman Catholic Monastic boarding school at Gilling Castle and then went onto Ampleforth College and went on to study history in the London University. However, he left his education unfinished in an effort to devote himself to Islamic works.

He became dissatisfied with Christianity at the age of 8, with it not making sense to him.

Green researched and practiced many religions, including Buddhism (for 3 years) before embracing Islam.

Whilst in Britain his father got a job in 1976 working for Barclays Bank International and was subsequently sent to Cairo, Egypt, to set up a branch of the Bank there.

His study of the Noble Qur'an immediately attracted him to Islam and he embraced Islam in 1988. He has been a Daw'ah practitioner in Britain since then.

Green now works in the London Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre as the Visits and English Dawa Co-ordinator.

Green is seen akin to lecturers such as Dr. Zakir Naik, Dr. Bilal Philips, Khalid Yasin and Yvonne Ridley, doing many lectures on Islam worldwide and also in London's famous Hyde Park, Speakers Corner.

It’s a controversial time for British women to be wearing the hijab, the basic Muslim headscarf. Last month, Belgium became the first European country to pass legislation to ban the burka (the most concealing of Islamic veils), calling it a “threat” to female dignity, while France looks poised to follow suit. In Italy earlier this month, a Muslim woman was fined €500 (£430) for wearing the Islamic veil outside a post office.

And yet, while less than 2 per cent of the population now attends a Church of England service every week, the number of female converts to Islam is on the rise. At the London Central Mosque in Regent’s Park, women account for roughly two thirds of the “New Muslims” who make their official declarations of faith there – and most of them are under the age of 30.

Conversion statistics are frustratingly patchy, but at the time of the 2001 Census, there were at least 30,000 British Muslim converts in the UK. According to Kevin Brice, of the Centre for Migration Policy Research, Swansea University, this number may now be closer to 50,000 – and the majority are women. “Basic analysis shows that increasing numbers of young, university-educated women in their twenties and thirties are converting to Islam,” confirms Brice.

“Our liberal, pluralistic 21st-century society means we can choose our careers, our politics – and we can pick and choose who we want to be spiritually,” explains Dr Mohammad S. Seddon, lecturer in Islamic Studies at the University of Chester. We’re in an era of the “religious supermarket”, he says.
